Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In February 21, Anthony and I signed up for the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon on 3rd October 2021. We weren’t doing it for a particular cause - I just wanted to prove to myself I could, since developing a love of running during the pandemic! Training was going well. Anthony could run quicker than I could, but I could run further so we were working hard!

However, I (very suddenly) lost my Dad at the end of April, in horrendous circumstances. We’ve gone through a very hard time & so did my Dad in the end. He had a tracheostomy tube fitted in 2014 as he had laryngeal cancer which resulted in a complete laryngectomy (removal of voice box predominantly). He used an electrolarynx to speak & could be understood face to face, but phone calls were difficult.

If you know anyone who has had this, it’s completely life changing! It’s awful to live with. Therefore, I am running to raise money for a charity who help and support laryngectomy  patients.

If you’d like to follow my progress, I post most of it on Insta @jenruns21

July 2022 - The half marathon has been rescheduled for 2nd Oct 2022. I have started my training to get fit for it 💪🏼

About the charity

The association was formed in 1976 with the objective to promote the welfare and rehabilitation of laryngectomy patients and their families. To be of assistance to those professionals working in the field of laryngectomy. NALC collects and disseminates relevant information and has an education programme which includes seminars for both patients and professionals. The association offers various services including counselling and a help and referral service. NALC has an extensive range of literature and DVD’s. We support relevant studies and clinical trials in their application for funding. Our members contribute by reviewing patient leaflets and joining steering committees.
