Story
For some reason that completely defies me, I will be taking part in the Weymouth Harbour Christmas Day swim this year (!!) So yes I will be swimming across the harbour to raise money for a charity very close to my heart, Kathmandu Animal Treatment Centre.
I lived in Nepal as a child for nearly 5 years and witnessed the horrors of thousands of stray dogs living on the streets in terrible conditions. More than 22,500 dogs live on the streets of Kathmandu, Nepal, and many suffer from starvation, infected open sores, mange, and other injuries and illnesses. Due to the fear of rabies, dogs are often treated badly by local people. The Kathmandu Animal Treatment Centre (KAT Centre) is a non-profit registered charity organisation dedicated to improving the welfare of Nepal's animals.
Its goal is to eliminate rabies and to create a healthy, sustainable street dog population in Kathmandu through: birth control, rabies vaccinations, public education and re-homing. KAT are currently raising money for a new home to treat more animals.
