Story

Hi!

Myself (Jenny) and my lovely mum Roz are power walking this half marathon for this fantastic charity. Please read more below about why they became so important to me when my daughter started experiencing metal health struggles.

Your sponsorship would be amazing... but if you can't on this occasion that's absolutely fine... just remember this charity are there if you ever find yourself needing help... I'm also here to chat any time.

Thank you

Jenny & Roz

You never go into parenting thinking that one day you will need the strength to support your child through mental health struggles.... but when it happens it can be one of the most harrowing experiences of your life. It can incredibly lonely too as even today with all the awareness raised about mental health issues it's not something that's easy to talk about. It's not exactly 'light' conversation and the fear of being judged is huge.

It effects everybody in the family.... parents, sibling, grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins, other carers or close family friends. Sometimes it's hard to open up to those close to you too, for fear of upsetting or worrying them... or simply because you're just too exhausted from using all your strength just to get by and support your child day by day.

That's why charities like Parenting Mental Health are so important. You feel a little bit less alone, you have a safe space to share worries or wins with people who really get it but aren't emotionally involved... and  you can get some good solid advice from others who are maybe a few steps ahead of you.

PMH have been incredibly helpful to me on my journey supporting my daughter's mental health. That's why myself (Jenny) and my lovely mum Roz are raising funds for this incredible charity.

Parenting Mental Health started with a Facebook group in September 2016, by Suzanne Alderson after her daughter was suicidal at the age of 14. Once Suzanne's daughter was on the road to recovery, her mission was with a goal to connect and support parents. Since then it has grown to support parents around the world across its digital channels and programs.

Parenting Mental Health now empowers, educates, and supports tens of thousands of parents to successfully navigate each stage of their child's mental illness, and to become stronger and more resilient families. Parenting Mental Health became a Charity in February 2020 with the aim to fundraise and provide financial support for PMH to be able to deliver training, resources, interventions, counsellors and education to parents for FREE.

That is why we need your support. Your support and donations will allow PMH to continue to provide services and hope and connection to parents and carers experiencing poor mental health in their child.

About the charity

When 2/3 children with a diagnosable mental health issue don't get treatment from the NHS, they turn to parents - yet everything you knew about parenting is changed. PMH aim to skill and support 1 million parents through this experience by 2026, with vital resources, guides and connection.
