What a year 2020 has turned out to be…

As we approached lockdown #2, we wanted to look at ways in which we could look after our physical and mental health through this next stage of uncertainty and exercise plays a huge part in both. With this in mind we decided to set ourselves a challenge, lets run 100 miles (each) between now and Christmas. That is right, 1 0 0 miles!  And most importantly let’s run for something worthwhile… TO KENYA WITH LOVE.

TKWL is an incredible charity whose purpose is to provide a better future for children in Kisumu, Kenya. Non-profit, TKWL is only able to continue their life changing work through fundraising and sponsorship. These funds help by providing the children with an excellent academic education, which otherwise they cannot afford, thus giving them a better chance of gaining employment and eliminating poverty. As well as an education TKWL provide a daily nutritious meal (often the children’s only meal of the day) and medical care.

Mamma Smith saw first-hand the amazing work TKWL do when she visited and volunteered at the Nursery and Primary school 10 years ago. Extremely moved and inspired from her visit I started sponsoring a child, Abdul and I will continue to throughout the rest of his education.  Receiving Abdul’s school report, letters, drawings, and updates always feels amazing to see how worthwhile my monthly sponsorship is, making a difference to Abdul and hopefully his future.

This year has seen the whole world shook by the covid-19 pandemic and we really do appreciate that times are tough for so many of us feeling the impact from this virus. But upon reflection we also feel  extremely fortunate to live in England where we have free education, public healthcare, and support systems in place to ease some of the pressures we all face. The children in Kenya are not so lucky. Already living in poverty this pandemic adds mighty pressure to an already struggling nation.  

So, we ask you, please sponsor us and give to this worthy cause. Every penny really does count and will be used to provide food parcels to children and their families.
