Story

Hey everyone!

So, I am running The Minley Brutal (21km), Tough Mudder and the Spartan Beast this year, because I'm a glutton for punishment, but most importantly to raise money for the Down's Syndrome Association. Most of you probably know, and have also had the pleasure of meeting, my amazing younger brother, who was born with Down's Syndrome. The DSA helped my family a lot when we found out Zak had DS, and are continually available for families, friends, carers, teachers and anyone else who is involved with people with DS.

So here is a little bit of information about the brilliant service the DSA offers, highlighting why I am running to raise money for them, and helping ensure these services are always available to those who need them.

The DSAs main aim is to create the conditions needed by those with DS to enable them to live life to the fullest, and provide information not only to those with DS, but family members, friends and even professionals.

They provide essential information on everything form health, to benefits, to eduction as well as locating support groups and giving advice on finding employment. They offer advice and support to parents and families of those with DS and on top of all this, even provide training for carers. This service is invaluable to many people involved in the lives of those with DS, as everything you would need to know can be sourced in one place.

Zak now takes part in many sport groups, such as the Special Olympics, is involved in many clubs which provide him with days out working or enjoying time with friends, and help provide him with the essential skills he will need when he enters the world of work. Without companies like the DSA, others groups used by those with DS wouldn't be difficult to find.

So, any support you can offer, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated to help make sure this amazing association continues to help those with DS (and anyone in their lives) live as rewarding lives as possible!

Thanks, love Jess x
