I've decided to do the unthinkable and run the London Marathon in a few short months to raise money for an amazing charity - Action on Pre-Eclampsia (APEC). APEC is a small charity and need a lot of fundraising and the London Marathon is the biggest fundraising event of the year!

Pre-eclampsia is an awful condition and is the most serious complication of the most common medical conditions encountered in pregnancy. Serious Pre-eclampsia affects 1-2 in every 100 first pregnancies. Every year in the UK about 1000 babies die due to complications caused by Pre-eclampsia and  7 mothers die in the UK every year due to Pre-eclampsia. 

Why is this charity close to my heart you may ask? Anyone that knows me, will know I am a Midwife. I have seen the devastating effects of Pre-eclampsia in many shapes and forms over the years. There is still a lot to learn and as yet the exact root cause is still unknown. APEC supports essential education for Doctors and Midwives, raises awareness and and supports people affected by pre-eclampsia. 

How your donations help:

£20 would pay for 100 leaflets to be sent out to hospitals and the general public

£50 would pay for enough fact sheets to last 3 months 

£350 would provide helpline support for people worried about pre-eclampsia for a whole week 

£1500 would meet the majority of the costs of providing a study day for 50 midwives.

I've been to some of their study days and used APEC resources with women and families and can genuinely say a lot of the knowledge and awareness I have is down to this charity. They have helped me and hundreds of other midwives help women and their families.
