Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Having sadly lost family and friends to cancer, St Mary's Hospice has cared for loved ones and their families through such a difficult time.

St Mary’s is a charity and their services are free of charge to our community but they are not free to provide. It costs over £3 million a year to keep the hospice running with 18% of funding from the NHS and the rest comes directly from the community.

As most people know, Mike and I have completed various challenges over the years, raising money for  Cancer Research and Macmillan Cancer Support but nothing quite like this!

In October, we will be heading to Kathmandu in Nepal for a 15 day trek with hopefully reaching Everest Base Camp on day 9.  Our accommodation will be extremely basic & sleeping in tea houses for the duration with temperatures dropping as low as -20° at night.  With limited food / clothes, poor sanitation and flying into Lukla airport (one of the most dangerous airports in the world) this will be a challenge for us but hopefully an amazing experience!!  This all came about last year after a few drinks and discussing what random challenge we can do next!!!!

We have decided any sponsorship raised from climbing Everest Base Camp would be donated locally and what a better cause than St Mary's Hospice.

Any donation no matter what the value would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Jill & Mike x
