Story
Thanks for your interest in what I am doing. This is my second cycling challenge for Transaid. I thought the first, in South Africa last year, was tough. I was out of my comfort zone. Before I knew it, I was nudged into doing this rough road challenge of 490kms from Zambia's capital, Lusaka, south west to the Victoria Falls. I am no athlete and have been training hard (in rain and heat) for what is ahead.
As I write this, it is under 6 weeks to go, so the pressure is on. I would be very grateful if you would support me. I have set a target and if that could be met - or even better exceeded - then every bump and dust along the 490 kms will feel a bit easier. I have made a personal donation which covers all the costs of my place on the challenge and the minimum funding so all donations go towards Transaid's work.
I have a particular reason for asking for support. Transaid chimes with me. I am entering my last 6 months as Scotland's Traffic Commissioner and of my contribution to making Scotland's roads safeand our economy and communities enhanced through effective logistics. It has been a privilege and I want to record my respect for all the good people in bus, coach and road transport. Transaid was set up and is supported by the logistics industries who know that with training and knowledge, the horrendous level of road deaths and injuries in sub-Sahara Africa can be tackled. Transaid goes beyond road safety and uses transport as the link to better health care - bicycle ambulance projects in Zambia and Malawi and health care mobility; and making a modest living.
Transaid's web-site is www.transaid.org - please have a look.
Many thanks and all best
Joan
