Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Sunday, April 19th 2015, family and friends will be running in memory of Richard Smith, our darling son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and good friend to all those who knew him.

Both Dads, Andy and Tim, Laura Lou, Uncle David, and Richard's close friend Robbie will be running in varying shades of foot wear, trendy head gear and with varying degrees of fitness! There has been much training, some moaning (!) and a few injuries, but one thing we can promise, is they will all finish and will be cheered across the finishing line whether they've run, walked or crawled across the course.

We are aimimg to raise a further £1000 to add to our already huge total of £9931.31 (the pennies are very important) raised since we lost our boy.

On the 10th March, ELF launched their Chevithorne Appeal, to raise £420,000 to build a new suite of rooms at the end of Yarty Ward, to support familes like ours through the traumatic last days of a loved ones life.

Please visit the ELF website for more information on this fantastic appeal and please every penny counts, we thank you from the bottom of hearts for your contribution today. The link and a couple of paragraphs below explaining why the rooms are being built. All of the money we have raised so far will go to this fantastic appeal, so already over 2% of the overall total, WOW!!!!!!

Because of the nature of blood cancers and blood disorders, critically ill and end of life patients will stay in the Haematology Ward at the RD &E rather than be treated at home or in a hospice. Families obviously want to be close to patients during this time and presently this is not possible. We want to do more to help patients and their families at such an important time.

This year Exeter Leukaemia Fund will be launching The Chevithorne Appeal which will fund a family suite in the Haematology Ward for those end of life patients.  The Suite will have 2 ensuite bedrooms, a living area with small kitchenette so that families can relax together along with a garden so those families and patients can have time out from quite often a very difficult and stressful situation. This will enable families to stay with critically ill or end of life patients in comfort and privacy.”
