LIFE-SAVING OPERATIONS
Since 1995, Chain of Hope has been working towards the long-term goal that all children, wherever they are born, have access to high quality and life saving cardiac care.
Having witnessed some of the amazing work being done by the Chain of Hope while working at the Royal Brompton Hospital, as well as hearing first hand accounts of the incredible work being done overseas, in some of the worlds most deprived countries. It is a pleasure to be running the London marathon on behalf of the Chain of Hope.
Your donation will ensure that the Chain of Hope continues to provide a world class standard of medical care to some of the most in need communites.
DEVELOPING OVERSEAS CARDIAC CAPABILITY
The vision of Chain of Hope is for all children around the world to have
access to the cardiac treatment that they so desperately need. They provide resources to allow for the building of local, sustainable, cardiac services in countries which don't have the skills or facilities needed to save young lives.
Chain of Hope do this by:
- Bringing together world-leading doctors, nurses and medical experts to mentor the local team through surgical and interventional missions
- Training local medical teams through both onsite and overseas training programmes
- Building the infrastructure necessary to sustainably support cardiac services
- Provision of specialist medical equipment and vital supplies
- Lobbying governments and institutions to provide high level political support for cardiac services
- Working towards the prevention of neglected diseases through small scale research projects
Chain of Hope also runs a global referral programme to help provide treatment to children with heart disease who would otherwise not survive.
These cases are mostly emergencies which are referred to us by local physicians, who send the child’s medical information to our Medical Board. If the Medical Board believe that Chain of Hope can help, then arrangements are made to fly the child to one of our partner hospitals for treatment.
We also support the child and their family after their operation relying on wonderful Host Families who care for a child in their home for up to a month.
