Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I had run many marathons over the years since I started running in 1984 but after running in New York in 2010 I started to develop some unusual symptoms, mainly a tendency for my left foot to drop after a few miles running, which caused me to trip up.  After several years of investigations,( and some close encounters with the tarmac),  and the arrival of some other symptoms I was finally diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in May 2014,  Since then I have been on daily medication which has helped reduce the effects of the symptoms and after almost 2 years out I am back running again, slowly it has to be said, but running nevertheless. I was very disappointed with my last marathon in Edinburgh in 2011, probably due to the early effects of the Parkinson's, and had intended to get back on schedule soon afterwards on my targeted way to 100 marathons, but circumstances dictated otherwise.  While I will not now achieve that goal, I always wanted to do another marathon to finish on a higher note than Edinburgh, so I chose my "home ground" of Belfast where I ran my first ever marathon in 1985 and where I recorded my best ever time of 3.03.21 in 1993, to have another go at redemption. So I am hoping to get around in something like 6 hours, and in the process raise some money for the Cure Parkinson's Trust, which is where you come in. I would appreciate any sponsorship, no matter how little, you can afford in order to reach a target of £1769.  Why that figure?  My running number is 1769, which represents my 17th Belfast Marathon run and my 69th overall and the added connection is that I am now 69 years old - wish I could have said 17 ! With my four daughters I have formed a Relay Team, The Quinntettes, so that after the first leg I will have some company all the way round.. So even if you don't know me you might know Donna, Karen, Sheena or Paula and care to sponsor them as this will represent our first ever participation as a family in a venture like this.
