Story
Welcome to our fundraising page for Eckington Boys Under 9's.
We have been going for 3 years now and play in the Sheffield and District Junior Leagues on Sunday mornings. Following many discussions the parents, players and coaches decided that we wanted to raise money for a local charity, which was close to the Eckington, Chesterfield and Sheffield area.
It was agreed to support The Elm Foundation, they are a charity based in Chesterfield who help anyone - women, men and children affected by domestic abuse. The Elm Foundation has been going since 1985 and are accredited with Safe Lives who are a larger charity who also offer support with domestic abuse. This is a fantastic charity and hope this is something you will be willing to support.
Now onto the first challenge of many, and what we have lined up for one of the coaches - Steve Turner!! Steve has kindly agreed to RUN to every away game that Eckington U9's play this season, that's over 56 miles in total - that's over two marathons, and is the distance from Eckington to Leicester!!. The destinations are:
Crosspool - 12 miles, Wisewood - 12.9 miles, Ecclesfield -14.3 miles, Worksop - 9.3 miles and Junior Blades 8 miles.
I guess you want to know a bit more about Steve Turner...Steve has spent all his life in Sheffield, born in Woodhouse in the early 80's and raised as a Blade. Football has always been his passion, playing for local teams including Junior Blades. Steve has been involved with Eckington Boys FC for over 4 years and is one of the three coaches - with his eldest son Teddy football mad and following in his dads footsteps. Steve likes to plays golf (too much if you ask some people!) and football in and around Sheffield. The longest distance he has ever ran is a half marathon. Fundraising is not new to him either, as he helped raise over £3.5k for Macmillan Cancer, which is charity close to his heart.
We hope you will donate to this great charity and wish Steve all the best along the journey and if you see him make sure you give him a wave!
