Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In May 2018, Six of us will be walking the French Way of the Camino De Santiago in memory of my father, Felix Darragh, who passed away in the Southern Area Hospice on 19/05/17.
My oul lad spent 22 nights in the hospice and the quality of care he received will never be forgotten by our family. As a small gesture of our thanks for the compassion, respect and dignity both my dad and ourselves were shown I have decided to complete the 112km trek from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela, to raise much needed funds for the Southern Area Hospice. My brother in law, Eamonn O'Hare, and good friends Michael McVeigh, Ryan Loney, Nick Hutchinson and dad’s friend, Paul Brady, have agreed to join me to raise funds for this very important cause.
The Southern Area Hospice cares for approximately 1,000 patients annually and relies on 73p in every pound coming from fundraising to enable them to care for and support patients and their families. The Fundraising Department has to raise £2.5 million in 2017 to maintain the level of care currently available. This equates to £208,333 per month, £48,077 per week or £6,849 per day. More than 80% of income goes towards direct patient care.
Any donation, no matter how small, will go towards the excellent care provided by the hospice.
Many thanks in advance
JD, Mick, Eamonn, Loney, Nick & Paul
