Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
There are a million worthy causes for which people raise money. I've recently been made aware of OCD Action by a friend and thought it seems like a great charity which unfairly gets overlooked.
OCD is a clinically recognised disorder which affects around 2% of the UK population. It is debilitating and paralysing. People with OCD experience intensely negative, repetitive and intrusive thoughts, combined with a chronic feeling of doubt or danger. In order to quell the thought or quieten the anxiety, they often repeat an action, again and again.
One of the greatest challenges that people with OCD face is the need to fight both the all pervasive stigma of mental health disorders and the widely held belief that OCD is a mild or even "quirky" problem that is nothing more than hand washing. Many people now use the term "a bit OCD-ish" without understanding the onerous nature of the disorder in its severe form.
OCD Action is the largest registered OCD charity in the UK and yet only has 9 staff members. That's 9 people to assist the c. 1.3 million suffers.
So please give generously and check out their website for more details.
Cheers.
p.s - because it's the year of the monkey (my favourite animal), I will be running in a monkey costume.
