Brentwood Half Marathon 2012 · 25 March 2012 ·

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune condition in which there is an increased tendency for the blood to clot. The condition can cause strokes, heart attacks, pulmonary emboli and DVTs. In pregnancy, APS is a leading cause of recurrent miscarriage and stillbirth.

Story

My wife Kathryn suffers from Hughes Syndrome (also known as antiphospholipid syndrome - APS) which severely affects her health. The Hughes Syndrome Foundation promotes awareness and funds research into the condition.

I ran the Brentwood Half Marathon last year.  This was my first race since leaving school (which was I must admit was a few years ago) and was a tremendous experience.  I didn't have a favourite charity and so I raised money for the charities linked to the event.  Since then my wife Kathryn has discovered and benefited from the Hughes Foundation and so I'm raising money for them in running my second half marathon.

Update: I managed to complete the Brentwood Half Marathon today (26-Mar-11) in a time of 1:45:47.  Hard work, especially the last few miles, but very satisfying.   A very good natured event - I enjoyed chatting to various people before and during the run.  Weather was perfect (cool) with some sun breaking through in the last couple of minutes.  Thank you to everyone who has donated money to this worthy cause.
