Story

Cycling solo from Lands End to John O'Groats in 7 days to raise awareness of Amyloidosis and raise money for Hospice at Home West Cumbria in memory of my Dad, John Tomlinson (senior).  I'll be completing this ride in September, follow me on Instagram at 7day_lejog_for_charity.

In 2020 my dad was diagnosed with Amyloidosis. I'd never heard of it, it's a blood disease that acts almost like a blood cancer and it is terminal. There is no known cure. He began Chemotherapy in 2020 which can slow down the process, but this had no effect in my dad's case and in March 2021 he passed away.

With the help of Hospice at Home West Cumbria my Dad was able to spend his last six months at home with his wife, children, and grandchildren, where Hospice at Home would help provide his daily care.  The assistance they gave my mum with care, and the respite they offered by providing a night nurse on occasions was amazing and immeasurable.  Without them it would have been almost impossible to provide my dad with the end of life care he needed at his family home.
