Story
When not running (!) I am training to become a kidney specialist and have previously undertaken research into diabetic kidney disease generously part-funded by the charity Kidney Research UK. I am keen to use my personal physical challenge as an opportunity to raise funds for this worthy charity which leads the UK fight against kidney disease and its consequences including the need for kidney dialysis and transplantation, and in many cases early and untimely death.
There is also a back-story to running and me...
In January 2011 I suffered a serious knee injury playing football and it was suggested by my physiotherapist I was unlikely to run again. In true doctor's fashion, after a hasty arthroscopic patch-up, I vowed to ignore that advice and to prove that physiotherapist wrong. 4 years later I have lowered my 10K PB from 52 mins (pre-injury in 2010) to sub-38mins in 2015 and run a half-marathon in sub 1hr25. Marathon running represents the final frontier for me, and I was gutted last year when 6 weeks before the big day, I picked up a freak back injury that refused to go away. This year I am back for another try, fitter than ever, and with fingers crossed that I can keep the injury-gremlins away long enough to reach the start line of VMLM 2015!
