We provide inclusive dance opportunities to empower people with learning disabilites

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

DanceSyndrome is an inclusive dance company that has been going and growing since 2009 after being set up by Jen Blackwell, who has Down syndrome. Jen was determined to forge a career as a dancer, but found that there were few opportunties open to disabled dancers. DanceSyndrome train learning disabled dancers to become dance leaders; they deliver workshops all over the North West that are co-led by disabled and non disabled dance artists; the company do performances (including an invitation to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer); they speak and perform at conferences; and their incredible achievements are being recognised by those in the arts, business, and health & social care sectors. Like all small not-for-profit organisations funding is tough, so we want to do our bit to help ensure that this important and valued work is able to continue. DanceSyndrome gives members the opportunities to make friends, to develop confidence and skills, to be seen first and formost as an individual and as a dancer. And it gives others the chance to be motivated to move, to dance and to see potential where it is often not seen.
