Story
On 27 January 2009, aged 10, we lost a close family friend to a Diffuse Pontine Glioma (a rare brain tumour). Katie was a fit, fun loving 10 year old when she was diagnosed with the terminal illness.
Her family set up the "Katie McKerracher Trust" to help children with a Diffuse Pontine Glioma by providing a listening ear & financial support for patients & parents; providing access to healing/alternative therapy; and supporting research.
In order to raise money for the Katie McKerracher Trust I will be taking part in Edinburgh's IRONMAN70.3 on 2 July. This involves a 1.2miles (1.9km) swim in the Firth of Forth sea, followed by a 56miles (90.4 km) cycle and to finish off a half marathon (13.1miles) (21.1km).
To date my longest distances achieved for each individual component (never mind altogether) is:
- 10 lengths in the pool (where I had to stop every 2 lengths to catch my breathe)
- 20km cycle
- 10k run
This is a wonderful charity set up my Katie's parents and I hugely appreciate any donations made.
If you want to find out anymore information about the charity then please do let me know.
Thanks
Jordan
