I am running the Manchester Half Marathon in October 2019. 10 months away and I need the practice! I am hoping to raise as much money as I can for SAFA Cumbria. This charity is a counselling and mental well being charity that helps and supports those who maybe struggling with self-harming and eating disorders. 

This charity means a lot to me because last year I was a client. I was in a bad place, my mental health was deteriorating, suicidal and self harming. I didn’t know who to turn too after hurting so much. I was referred to the charity where I received counselling. Over 20+ weeks I met my counsellor weekly and she helped me through the most difficult part of my life. Addressing mental health issues, teaching to manage my mental health, I got better. I had my wobbles but the charity was always there for me. Now I am better and the trauma  behind me, I want to raise money for this charity that helped me so much. 

The money will help fund counsellors that do a fantastic job in supporting all their clients. I still have my good and bad days but the support I had from SAFA truly helped me. Doing this half marathon I want to raise awareness too. Many people suffer from mental health issues in their life. Statistically the biggest killer of men under the age of 45 is suicide. I was almost part of that statistic. Organisations like SAFA can help support you through these tough times. You’re not on your own. I learnt not to bottle it up but talk. It’s okay not to be okay.
