To everybody taking the time to visit this page I would like to say thank you very much. 

In late July 2012 I was at the pub with a couple of friends when I got a phone call telling me my Mum had been admitted to hospital. At the time all I knew was she had fallen over and was unable to get back up herself. My Dad brought her to the doctor who then referred her to the hospital where they decided to admit her. That weekend in Ireland was a bank holiday and therefore progress seemed very slow in getting a diagnosis. In fact the weekend passed without any diagnosis. We were informed during the following week my Mum needed to be transferred to another hospital for diagnosis and that ran into her second week of being admitted. During this time my Mum deteriorated to the stage of being confined to bed, with her speech and responses very slow. This was very difficult when speaking to her on the phone and trying to keep our spirits up. Eventually they diagnosed her with an inoperable brain tumor which was confirmed to be Lymphoma.

The time from my Mum being admitted to hospital and her  passing away and leaving us was incredibility quick for a woman who hadn't been ill.

I am running this race to challenge myself and also to raise money for this important charity because in total I know of 3 people to date who have suffered with blood cancers. My Mum died from Lymphoma, my friend Martin ('Judi') lost his fight against Leukemia only a couple of months after my Mum. And my boyfriend's Mum was also diagnosed with Myeloma who has gone through treatment and is currently doing well. 

I am running for this charity because I want to help in a way I can. I hope one day that I will get to see great results from the research being carried out.
