In September our world was turned upside down when my lovely Su was diagnosed with breast cancer. The cancer was a grade 3 tumour (the nastiest kind) so we very quickly found ourselves in a new world with a lot of unpalatable learning to be done and horrible decisions that needed to be made . Surgery followed in October and then in early December Su began chemotherapy - a course of treatment that will go on until late Spring.
Throughout all of this Su has amazed everyone in the way she has responded and has been such an inspiration to us all. Despite feeling awful much of the time she has been determined to retain as much normality as possible, being as active as she can (climbing Mam Tor 10 days after surgery; going for a run 5 days after chemo!) and using this as an opportunity to do more art, learn Italian, learn the piano and even try a bit of topless modelling!! Her spirit and strength is such an amazing example for our beautiful children to see just how indomitable the human spirit can be - I am completely in awe of her.
We have been incredibly fortunate to live in this wonderful city where Su has been able to receive amazing, world class, compassionate support and care from a range of clinicians at the Nightingale Centre, The Christie and Manchester Royal Infirmary . Prevent Breast Cancer is a charity based at the Nightingale Centre in Manchester and is the only UK breast cancer charity funding groundbreaking research solely aimed at preventing the disease for future generations.
Inspired by Su's spirit and strength I will be running the Snowdonia Trail Marathon in July 2017 to raise funds for Prevent Breast Cancer . This will be by far the toughest race I have ever run - ascending 1,685 metres over 26 miles, circumnavigating and eventually climbing Wales' highest peak, Snowdon.
Oh, and if that isn't enough to make you want to donate, I'll be running it in a pink tutu! xxx
