Girls around the world experience shame and embarrassment when they start their period and struggle to access the support and information they need to be confident and comfortable during menstruation. In Uganda over half of girls are using improvised materials ranging from rags to corn husks and banana leaves to manage menstruation and missing school during their periods. In the UK 1 in 10 girls in the UK have been unable to afford pads and receive no preparation at all before their first period.

Irise International are working to end period poverty for good and create a world where no one is held back by their period. Irise is enabling girls to stay, happy, healthy and in school during their periods, and enabling them to access information about their bodies, safe and affordable sanitary products and creating girl friendly school environments. In addition, they're also working to end period poverty for marginalised girls in the UK.
