Story

I’m running my very first half marathon to raise money for the new BSBI Hardship Fund.

This is a brand new initiative which aims to provide 1 year’s free or discounted membership to existing BSBI Members who find themselves in circumstances where they can no longer afford their membership.

With this help, they can stay part of the BSBI community and not have to give up the something they enjoy most just to get by. We’ve been hearing from members who’ve been with the Society for decades having to cut back due to the escalating cost of living, and I really believe in trying to do what we can to support them in their moment of need.

Although BSBI membership costs less than £3 per month, many people are having to make difficult financial decisions just now. Sponsoring me will help keep these BSBI members connected to their passion, to nature and the outdoors, and most importantly a wider community of people who share their interests, at a time when their world must seem very small indeed.

Any and all donations are so gratefully received, but to give you an idea of impact, £50 would support one adult member and one student member for the whole year, £25 would keep a longstanding member with the Society (who would be over 65, not in employment and have been members for at least 10 years), and even £5 could help subsidise the cost for someone considering having to leave.

So thank you for thinking of sponsoring me! I hope I can do you proud on the run 😊

The BSBI is for everyone who cares about the wild plants of Britain and Ireland. Since 1836, we've been promoting the study, understanding and enjoyment of British and Irish botany, identifying, recording and mapping to underpin evidence-based conservation of British and Irish flora.
