Fundraising for Chernobyl Children's Life Line

Each year Chernobyl Children's Life Line bring 10 children from Belarus for a rest and recuperation visit to the UK.
Belarus received over 70% of the radioactive fallout from the Chernobyl nuclear explosion in April 1986 and as a result, thousands are born every year who go on to develop thyroid cancer, bone cancer and leukaemia. This is still a very real problem even all these years on.
The children visit the UK for 4 weeks of rest, recuperation and fun. Doctors in Belarus say that this boosts the children’s immune systems for at least two years, helping them to resist, or recover from, serious illness.
In the summer, when the dust causes radiation levels to rise, it is important for as many children as possible to leave their contaminated homeland for a few weeks of fresh air and clean food. It can also significantly reduce the amount of radioactive caesium which has built up in a child’s body.
It costs £600 to bring over one child each year, we are hoping by running this half marathon we can raise enough money to cover the costs for one child. If we manage to do that our employer 'John Good Shipping' will donate double, a further £1200 which would cover the cost for 3 children to visit and give them the extra chance they deserve.
