Story
The Sandcastle Trust support people living with rare genetic disorders. As some of you know, my God Daughter Meg has a very rare chromosome disorder called Trisomy 9 Mosaical Syndrome. This means the 9th chromosome is replicated 3 times, but mosaically, meaning all people who have this very rare condition are affected differently. Meg has a curved spine, global development delay, was born with malrotated bowels, has fused kidneys, she cannot eat so is tube fed, she requires oxygen at night frequently gets chest infections and breathing problems. She hypersalivates, cannot speak or walk and requires constant supervison. This doesn't mean she has no quality of life, Meg is a happy little girl who has a very cheeky personality, loves attention and has achieved things her family were told she never would. Life is challenging for the whole family, but charities like the Sandcastle Trust help families like Megs, giving support, respite and memory making opportunities that otherwise wouldn't be possible.
