Story

I’ve always looked up to anyone who has taken on a charity challenge, and donated from behind my phone screen. But this time I'm on the other side, taking part in a take-off of BBC Strictly Come Dancing (I have no dancing experience other than after WKD's in a sticky floored club!) called Strictly Inspire Suffolk.

I have to go to dance training over 10 weeks, with a professional partner, ending nerve wrackingly in front of a panel of celebrity and local judges, the public and my mickey taking family. I mean imagine falling over in heels during a waltz with my dress over my head. Trust me it's likely.

The competiton/show is 21st July 2018 at Trinity Park, Ipswich (tickets to the dinner-dance/competition will be available too soon and I would love to say thank you to those who sponsor me personally there on the night, as long as you can put up with my nervous trembling)

I'm doing this for anyone that ever had a difficult time as a child/young adult and had, or wishes they could have had, someone out there who could help them stay on the right track, avoid dangerous situations and realise they really can achieve their dreams in life. Everyone deserves a chance to have opportunities, be happy and genuinely cared about. I used to work in social care, and have seen teens and young adults from the most unimaginable situations of abuse, drugs, hostel life, gangs and complex family situations, turn their life around when some one from an organisation like Inspire Suffolk, gives them their time and opportunities. As a small grass roots charity, every penny goes directly into the projects, so your money, however big or small, really does make a difference.

On a personal level, after many failed rounds of IVF fertility treatment, I am hoping learning to dance will help me start to rebuild my self-esteem, and trust in my body that so often I have been angry with. To start seeing what it can do, rather than what it can't do...and hopefully get a little fitter ready for out next cycle!

Massive thank you to Ipswich School of Dancing for putting up with my 2 left feet and profuse sweating to prepare for the competition!
