Story
Well, here we go again!
Thank you so much to everybody who donated to my 2021 challenge: walking 50km along the Thames Path in memory of my wonderful wife donna.
Donna died in January 2021 from breast cancer, and my world fell to pieces. Since then, I've been gradually reassembling myself, and the things that have helped me the most have been 1) walking and 2) the support of WAY - Widowed and Young. WAY is a peer support network of people who have been widowed before their 51st birthday, and without them... Well, it's probably best not to think about it.
I walked 50km before, so I have had to raise my sights a bit. I will attempt to walk 100km from London to Brighton on the 28th of May 2022. Continuously. All through the night. I am an idiot. My feet barely survived 50km, so I'm not entirely sure how I will manage it, especially given that it is significantly less flat than the Thames Path. But I will give it my best shot, and you never know, I might even make it! Full details here: London 2 Brighton Challenge - Ultra Challenge
I will also be warming up with a leisurely stroll in January. A measly marathon-length walk around London. Of course, it being January I will have the elements to deal with... Fingers crossed for that. More details: London Winter Walk - Ultra Challenge
So, please give generously! Also, and I know I said this before, what I would love more than anything would be for people to join me. Not necessarily for the full walks, as shorter distances are available, but it would be great to have as much company as possible. There are a few other WAY members joining in too, and all speeds & abilities are welcome.
Failing that, bung us a few quid and tell me what a lunatic I am! Love to you all, and love to donna (who would be shaking her head and tutting at me by now).
