What a journey and what an experience. I just wanted to share some photos from Amnesty's Trek to Machu Picchu. 

Everyone who was kind enough to sponsor me may take some comfort in hearing that this was a significant challenge and certainly not a walk in the park.

We encountered heavy rain for some of the 4 day trek. Covering miles of rough hilly terrain in wet clothes is tough. But despite the weather, the soaking tents and altitude adjustments our group had an absolutely
amazing time.

Firstly I have to say how fortunate I feel that I am part of a movement that has such kind and passionate supporters.

It was wonderful getting to know fellow activists and fundraisers during our trip. We've shared some incredible memories.

For me, I will remember reaching the Sun Gate and looking down on Machu Picchu for the first time – a stunning experience – and I was full of admiration for the Incas.


Trekking long distances and camping in the outdoors was incredibly rewarding. We encountered rugged scenery, mist clouds and friendly
and welcoming Peruvians.

Another highlight has to be the day organised by our colleagues from the Amnesty Peru office. They introduced us to some of their partners
fighting for justice for the many thousands of women forcibly sterilised in 1980-2000.

All in all it was a wonderful experience and I'd like to thank all my fellow
trekkers for their camaraderie throughout the trek. I'd also like to thank the organisers, guides and Amnesty Peru for taking the time to show Amnesty supporters from the UK some of the incredible work they do in this wonderful part of the world.
