On the 14th of July 2018 I will be swimming 6km in an estuary in Devon. This is probably the scariest challenge I've ever set myself. The swim starts inland at Aveton Gifford, and ends on Bantham Beach. There is a swoosh from the tide at the end of the swim which can mean you are carried at 8 knots through a narrow channel in the estuary. I'm trying hard not to think about that swooshing me straight out into the channel.
I have only ever managed just over1km swim in open water, and 3km in the safety of the swimming pool, so my training starts in earnest now. I will be starting on May 5th at Box End Water park with my open water training with the aim of getting up to 5km in open water towards the end of June. This is going to mean some early morning, very chilly swims and some mental toughness. It will mean so much to me if you can help by donating to this wonderful charity. On the day it will probably take me around 2.5 hours to complete the swim and I know I'll be looking forward to coffee and a cornish pasty.
