Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am running the Llanelli Half Marathon in February 2019. Its my first ever half marathon and I am raising money for the Fertility Network UK. This organisation is one that is very close to my heart. The Fertility Network have helped and are continuing to help me with my ongoing battle with infertility.
Here’s my story:-
We started our IVF journey back in 2016. After 6 years of trying for a baby following an ectopic pregnancy we were diagnosed with unexplained fertility.
After what seemed like a million tests, appointments and one tubal removal operation, we were finally referred for IVF. Unfortunately, after all of the scans, drugs and injections, our first cycle failed. To say we were devastated would have been an understatement. Anyway, fast forward a few months and it was time for round two. And just a few days before Christmas our dreams were once again shattered with another failed cycle.
Infertility SUCKS! IVF SUCKS. It is the most time consuming, invasive, expensive and emotionally painful roller coaster I have been on. It actually broke me, TWICE!! You have so much invested in the process, financially and emotionally that it consumes your every thought!
With 1 in 7 couples experiencing infertility, I want to try and raise money for this amazing organisation. The Fertility Network UK not only supports people affected, but also raises awareness of infertility issues and campaigns for equality of NHS IVF treatment, as it is currently offered on a post code lottery.
The Fertility Network UK receive no guaranteed funding, and no matter how little I can raise, it will make a difference to them. Last year the free Support Line alone dealt with almost 3,000 enquiries, and with extra funds, they could do so much more.
Such as........
Continue to run and extend the free Support Line service and extend the online services and support groups. It will also help to Increase the support services that they provide to those of us facing the challenges of childlessness.
Help to campaign for better access to NHS treatment and support for all those affected in any way by fertility issues and to continue to raise awareness of the impact of infertility and the need for fertility education to help protect and maintain future fertility.
