Story
Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition that affects one person in every 500. There is currently no cure for Parkinson's, which means the work that organisations such as Parkinson's UK and the Parkinson Society Canada do is critical. They provide education, support, advocacy and research to improve the lives of those affected by the condition.
I am running the Great North Run, the (self-proclaimed) greatest half marathon in the world, for my uncle who has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's, and in memory of my poppa who lived with Parkinson's for 7 years. Although everyone's experience of Parkinson's is different, they have shown me how important the friendship, support, and opportunities to connect, provided by these organisations, are in creating a path through Parkinson's.
I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK 'Team Nurse' to help them improve the lives of people affected by the condition. This is what we can do;
£75 will enable a half-day Parkinson's nurse-led clinic in the community.
£200 will enable Parkinson's UK to answer 15 calls to their helpline which supports anyone affected by Parkinson's.
£500 is enough to fund a Parkinson's nurse for 25 hours.
£1000 could fund a cutting edge research project for a week.
As you probably know, I am not a runner. However, the running shoes are officially on.
174 days and 18 hours remain.
¡Vamos!
