Katie and her twin sister Laura were born in QEH Gateshead at 24weeks In 1988.

At that time the hospital did not have the specialist equipment required to keep them alive and they had to be transferred to Middlesbrough. However, it is nothing short of a miracle that the staff  at QEH were able give the girls the care they needed for the first few hours after they were born. We are forever grateful for the skill and dedication of the staff who saved Katie and Laura.

Laura lived for 10 days but is always in our hearts. Katie has had many hurdles to overcome but is a happy, active and beautiful young woman.
