We support children across London aged 9-13 to help them improve their literacy.

Story

The Literacy Pirates are a charity working to develop the literacy skills and improve the confidence of young people living in London, so that they can achieve both in school and in the world beyond. While they started out in Hackney, the charity now works with young people across London whose teachers think they would benefit from some extra support.

The young people receive help with their reading skills using targeted reading support programmes and work with professionals to create and write their own books. On average, after completing the programme ‘Young Pirates’ improve their reading ages by over 50% , with 95% of teachers reporting a general increase in confidence in the children that have taken part in the scheme.
