Story
Yvonne and I arrived in Sierra Leone as missionaries in 1977, and spent the next 17 years in ministry there. Although we had to evacuate during the civil war in 1995, we have been blessed to be able to continue to be involved in God's work there to this day.
Part of this work has been my role as chairman of the UK registered charity, "Support EFSL". As the name suggests, it was set up to support the work of the Evangelical Fellowship of Sierra Leone (which I had actually been a board member of in the 1980s!)
In order to raise awareness and funds for the work that we do, Support EFSL will be taking part in the ASICS London 10k run on 21 July!
As chairman, I couldn't possibly let other trustees show me up, and therefore brazenly volunteered! I'm aiming to beat that elusive personal best I set when I was in my teens...
What Support EFLS does:
- Cover the costs of shelter and education for new converts, who have been rejected by their families and who may face persecution and danger.
- Pay for the roofing of rural churches (which is the most prohibitive cost to these churches).
- Crisis response when necessary. We were able to quickly respond to both the 2014 Ebola outbreak and the 2017 Freetown mudslide disasters by providing much needed aid.
- Contributing to the needs of Ebola orphans and those left with health issues after surviving the disease.
- Providing training and study Bibles to rural pastors.
- Broadcasting regular radio programmes throughout Sierra Leone.
- Investing in bicycles for pastors.
- Donating sewing machines as sources of income.

Any donation you can give, regardless of amount, will be invaluable to our work.
Please pray for all the runners/walkers; we'll need it!
