Kingsdale Charity Games For Demelza 2013 · 28 February 2013

Demelza believes in care that doesn't back down. We deliver extraordinary care to extraordinary children who are facing serious or life-limiting conditions, throughout Kent, South East London and East Sussex.

Story

Kingsdale FC of the Orpington Bromley District Sunday Football League are holding their 4th annual charity game at Dartford FC home ground of Princes Park on Sunday May 5.  There will be two games involved on the day as well as a Junior match featuring the newly formed Kingsdale Junior side.  The first match will feature the Kingsdale Reserves who take on a team of former Kingsdale players.  In the second game the Kingsdale 1st team will take on Charlton Athletic Veterans, or as we would like to refer to them, Legends.  We would like to thank Charlton, for the third time in a row, for agreeing to play against us on this big day.

The important thing though is not the games on the pitch but the reason they are taking place.  The charity games are in aid of Demelza Hospice Care For Children.  Demelza, for those who don’t know, provide support to the children and their families, for children who are not expected to live beyond the age of 19.  The thought of that is not a pleasant thought, but what Demelza do is carry out their motto of “adding life to days, when days cannot be added to life.”  The players of Kingsdale have made several visits to Demelza over the years and it is a charity that the club has become close to.

Last year, the charity games raised over £5,500 and the aim is to beat that and in total, the amount of money raised from the charity games for Demelza is over £10,000.  This doesn’t include players own individual efforts of sky dives and runs as well as the clubs annual Xmas Gifts For Demelza campaign.  Also alongside this day, 3 Kingsdale players, Andy Hammond, Joe Allen and Jim Kenny, are taking part in the Demelza 101 challenge, a cycle from Sittingbourne to Paris in April 2014.

We could never do justice to show what Demelza does and what they mean to the families that use their services.  All we can do is help raise awareness of the charity and ask if you can dig deep for this very special charity.
