Story
Hello,
This month I'll be running (and walking when my legs turn to jelly at the thought of exercise) 50 miles for Raising Futures Kenya, to support young people with training and skills so they can build secure futures, free from poverty. 50 miles is the distance between the Seed of Hope training centre in the informal settlement (slum community) in Nairobi, and the rural centre in Kariti, Kenya
September means back to school in the UK, but 1.5 million young people under 25 in Kenya are out of school and unemployed, living in poverty.
Young people, particularly young girls, are at high risk of exploitation including rape, child marriage and teenage pregnancy. They’re also more likely to be coerced into drugs and crime.
‘With no other options for education or work, I turned to sex work to put a roof over my head. As a street girl, I was harassed and abused by the big boys and I became pregnant. I thought about committing suicide as I felt like this life has no meaning and my child’s life would be even more tragic than mine.’

£132 will pay for a 6 month training course for a young person aged 14-25 in Kenya to get the skills and experience they need to start their own small business, or secure a job. Earning enough to live free from poverty. All young people deserve an opportunity to build a happy, secure, life. Anything you can donate will help this happen.
Thank you!
