Story

More than THIRTY staff from LHC will take on a big sponsored challenge this September to raise funds to buy new equipment for local charity, Dartmoor Adventure Breaks.

The team will be crossing Dartmoor. First we'll be pulling on our boots and hiking 17 miles from Okehampton to Princetown, climbing the moor’s two highest tors on the way. Then we'll jump on mountain bikes for the remaining 17 twisting miles. At the halfway point we'll also abseil down the cliffs of Foggintor Quarry for extra excitement (or terror depending on your point of view).

We'll be cheered to the finish at Dewerstone by the young people and staff from Dartmoor Adventure Breaks (and some of us will continue even further down to Ivybridge).

As with all our charity challenges, almost all LHC staff from our Exeter and Plymouth studios, including all the Directors, will be taking part. We’re not all super fit and under forty, so it’s a BIG test for many of us  and we’re hoping our efforts will raise lots of money.

The charity LHC is aiming to raise £3000 to fund new equipment for Dartmoor Adventure Breaks, which are organised by local charity Routeways.

The charity takes young people with a range of special educational needs and disabilities on adventurous and challenging activities, such as canoeing, gorge walking, rock scrambling, hiking, wild cooking and den building. The sessions help to develop many of the essential social skills that most of us take for granted, but most importantly the children get to have fun, increase in confidence and make friends.

LHC want to replace worn out kit and buy new, exciting equipment to help the charity offer even better adventures, to more youngsters on their waiting list.

Every £1 will count. A donation of £10 will buy a new rash vest or a pair of water shoes; £20 - a buoyancy aid or bumper hat; £30 - hiking shoes; £40 - a wild camping stove; £50 - a wetsuit; £150 - an archery set; £200 - archery safety net and poles; and £250 would buy a stand-up paddle board or a 3-person tent.
