Story

2022 marks the 55th* anniversary of Lancaster University Hiking Club. Founded in 1967, we are one of the largest student run outdoors clubs in the country, with over 400 members per year.

For our 55th* anniversary, we wanted to do something special and give back to the outdoors community by bringing people together and raising money for outdoors charities including Mountain Rescue. So… on Sunday 1st May 2022 we will be attempting the big bag, a collective attempt as a club to summit all 214 Wainwrights within a 24 hour period. This will be a sponsored hike to raise money for great outdoors causes including Mountain Rescue, and you can donate via this Just Giving Page.

All donations plus gift aid will go straight to the Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association, who's 12 member teams cover the entire Lake District National Park and Cumbria region.

*Thanks to the founding members that have got in touch to inform us that the club was actually founded in 1965! We're actually 57 years old and have just been wrong for the past 25 or so years!
