We help seriously & terminally ill children to live life to the full.

Story

This October I am taking sometime out to Trek the Inca Trail up to Machu Picchu. I am covering the cost of this trip myself, all donations made will go to Claire House Childrens Hospice.

The inspiration behind this is a very special little girl, Lydia Wilson.

Lydia Wilson lived her short life to the full. Lydia suffered from a rare form of cancer and suffered a lot of pain; she spent a big proportion of her last 3 years in Alderhey hospital on both the neurosurgical and oncology wards, and then her final days at Claire House Childrens Hospice.
Lydia captured the hearts of so many people with her infectious laugh and was inseparable from her devoted twin sister Naomi.

On the 13th of July 2009, the fight became too much for her, and she passed away peacefully in the arms of her Mummy and Daddy.

Lydia is a true inspiration to us all and was a very brave little girl.

Claire House is a 10 bed hospice located in Bebington on the Wirral helping families across Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man. It is a bright, vibrant place of hope for children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions; they also focus on the needs of the whole family, providing bereavement and other support for as long as it is needed. Their specialist nursing team also works in the community through their ‘Hospice to Home’ programme which offers paediatric palliative care in the family home.

Unfortunately they have no guaranteed government funding so they need to raise in excess of £2.5 million each year to maintain the present levels of service and continue helping families just like Lydias.

 My Aim

My aim is to trek the 45km long trail in 4 days, this involves great physical exertion to complete. On the second day you climb nearly 1200m (about 4000 ft) in the morning. Combined with high altitude (lack of oxygen) and extreme weather (you can easily burn in the high altitude sun during the day and temperatures can drop to below freezing at night) the trek can be hard work and incredibly physically demanding. If you know me well enough you will be aware that anything physically demanding has never been one of my strongest points~ so please take a moment and kindly sponsor me and show your support.
