Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

17th November is a very important date in our diaries, usually the day is packed with lots of activities to raise money for World Prematurity Day 💜

Sadly this year although the diary is empty and we aren't able to celebrate in our usual style the date still stands and we can still raise some money with your help.

2020 has been the year thats shaken the world, the majority of you who help to make this day possible and help to raise money for our unit have been through or known a family go through the journey of having a baby on the neonatal unit.

Pre covid you were able to have the support of family and friends able to visit you and your little ones one the unit however during these unprecedented times families have been restricted to Mum & birth partner visiting just once per day and at the begining of lockdown visiting was strictly one parent once per day.

Families have gone weeks and months without meeting their sibling, Grandchild, Niece or Nephew.

With the money previously raised we are in the final process of setting up an online baby diary at Blackpool Neonatal Unit, but this will cost around £5000 per year to continue. The nursing team can update the baby diary with pictures, videos and any other updates of the baby during their stay. It will allow families to have their own log in that they can share with family and friends should they wish to.

It was well publicised that we had a baby stay with us who tested positive for covid. Due to the family not being able to visit due to self isolation, nursing staff took photos and filled out a written diary for her family to read once discharged but when we have VCreate should another family be in the same situation we can have an online diary set up and in place for their family to see updates and photos online.

We are happy for you to set up your own challenges, online raffles or any other ways you can to help raise money for World Prematurity day however we cannot stress enough the importance to keep within the government guidelines.
