Story

Hi All!

After a lengthly assessment process, I have found out that I was successful in gaining a place on the VSO/ICS scheme. From the 10th October 2015 until the 23rd December 2015, I will be living with a local family in Nigeria. Whilst there our aim will be to improve science and maths education at Junior secondary level and trying to address issues such as low standards of education, dwindling motivation from students, lack of quality teachers and lack of creative learning and teaching methods.

ICS (International Citizenship Service) is a government funded programme that aims to encourage 18-25 year olds to volunteer abroad. This means that my flights, accommodation, food, insurance, vaccinations and allowance is paid for by the UK government. However, I would like to raise £800 pounds for VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas, charity no. 313757)  so that they can continue to train and send volunteers abroad who are not eligible to be funded by ICS so that they can continue the work they do towards international development. Without donations to VSO this work would not be able to continue.

I will be doing a variety of fundraising events. The first being a 'Live below the line' challenge.  where I will live off £1 per day for 7 days. This is to reflect on the fact that 70% of Nigerians live on this amount.  I would really appreciate any sponsorship towards this that you can give. small or large. More events are to come!

I am keeping a blog of the entire process which you can find here:
