Update - 26.8.10:

As most of you will know by now - we did it, had every kind of weather imaginable and were so cold within 4 hrs of day 2 we could barely ride. A test of character for all involved (support team too) but we did it and raised an amazing amount of money.

The support from all has been incredible especially to the guys who braved it on the road in the support van - Thank you to James Bartlett, Yasmin Thompson and Nicky Hitt for putting up with the tired miserable riders - also thanks must go to Dave Cash, Carol and David Hitt, Griph and Jan, Gavin Trevett and James Bull for their support along the way assisting with food, bike repairs and washing !!

And finally thanks to all who welcomed us at JOG, Chris Hitt, Carol and David Llewellyn, Mr and Mrs Stenhouse and Claire and Charlie Hitt.

What an experience, what an achievement - Dad would have been so proud of us all!!!!! :)

                                                                                    The reason

Andy Hitt, father to Pete and Neil, died of Leukaemia in October 2008 at the age of 57,  Andy contracted this tragic illness in November 2007, just 4 months after he retired from a 32 year career as a teacher at Kings of Wessex School in Cheddar.

Before Andy died he appeared to be on the road to recovery and the idea to take on the Land’s End to John O’Groats challenge for charity began.

Andy wanted to be involved in the challenge - either cycling if his health allowed or to be a part of the support team.

Unfortunately he lost his courageous battle and passed away before the challenge took place, so now we, 'the lejogers2010' are cycling in his honour to raise money for Leukaemia Research.

Andy was a revered member of the local community and a much loved teacher amongst his pupils and those of you who knew him personally will know how much he would have loved to have been involved in this epic challenge!!

                                                                                 The charity

Leukaemia Research is the only charity in the UK dedicated exclusively to researching blood cancers and disorders including leukaemia, Hodgkin’s and other lymphomas, and myeloma.

110,000 people, children and adults alike, are living with these cancers today. We are committed to giving every one of them the best chance of survival.

Our scientists and doctors work in over fifty top research centres across the UK. They are seeking to improve diagnosis of blood disorders and treatments for patients; they are also trying to understand why and how cells become cancerous to cure cancers.

We support patients, their families and friends by providing them a free information service, including a range of over 40 publications.

We need to raise more than £100 million over the next five years to sustain our investment. We receive no Government grants and for our life-saving research, depend entirely on voluntary donations.

Our passionate and determined approach to research is mirrored in our fundraising. Our family of supporters spreads across the UK and includes 140 voluntary branches, Bikeathon participants, Banana Army runners and triathletes, individual donors and organisations as well as a variety of celebrities such as Sir Ian Botham, Alastair Campbell and the Calendar Girls
