Story
After losing his leg five years ago, dad loved to help other amputees, even giving inspirational talks in support of new amputees at Roehampton Hospital.
It's heartbreaking to see someone you love lose a limb. Dad never complained, his attitude was very much about 'just getting on with it'. The truth is I will never truly know how he felt about such a loss, as it rarely came up in conversation, unless in jest, as he continued to have a sense of humour and put on a brave face to his family.
No matter how adaptable, determined and resilient he was, having an amputation impacts everything, especially when living alone. Dad was a proud man, not wanting pity and reluctant to ask for help. Nevertheless, his friends and family witnessed the immense challenges he faced every day.
I know it would have meant the world to him, to help someone in a similar situation with much-needed support, resources and care. This is why the family have requested donations to The Limbless Association as an alternative to gifting flowers in remembrance of his life.
Thank you,
Love Kelly-Ann and family.
