We are working to end the need for food banks in the UK

Story

My name is Liam Brigden, I am 27 years old and I want to make a difference. A difference that matters, that changes how people perceive need. Need is not a sign of weakness, need is need.

Like many of you who read this, I have faced times of true hardship. Times that shatter all confidence, leaving you a shadow of your true identity. People may face these times unexpectedly, a large bill, an illness meaning they can no longer work or even a death in the family. Others may have faced these times due to an extension of their family putting extra strain on their already stretched finances. Trussell Trust Foodbank offers a small glimmer of hope to people when everything appears to be failing them. The Trussell Trust’s 400-strong network of food banks provides a minimum of three days’ emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis in the UK. In 2016/17, Foodbank UK gave 1,182,954 three day emergency food supplies to people in crisis. Considering the current climate these figures will only continue to grow as many families struggle to meet the most basic of financial needs.

Through the power of Social Media and a 12 month campaign I aim to raise funds and awareness of the help available both locally and nationally in order to aid those most at risk. Throughout the 12-month period, I will be taking part in a number of challenges and events across the UK… A marathon, half marathon and a Triathlon to name a few. In order to increase exposure I will also be setting up a number of events within my local community such as Mountain Treks, Quiz Nights, Raffles, Pool Competitions and five aside tournaments.

For my campaign to build and become as successful as I envisage, I require the help of others, you. Unite against Hungers aim is to not only raise funds but also awareness. I will be setting up dedicated pages on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and uploading photos and videos for all to become involved. All events, sponsored walks and competitions allow the opportunity to include the community and widen awareness through the power of social media. I will be reaching out to people to take part in the competitions and all followers will be given numerous opportunities to take part in spot raffles for prizes, with all proceeds going to Trussell Trust Foodbank.

So I appeal to not only my local community but also the wider community. If you can donate £5/£10/£15 each donation can help make a difference. I will be uploading regular photos and videos of the events taking place and regular links to Trussell Trust information in the local area. If you have very little access to locate information in your local area don't hesitate to contact me and I will endeavour to help you in every way I can.

If anyone reading is interested in getting on board any of the events please don't hesitate to contact me.
