We provide much needed support for families to help people affected by a brain tumour

Story

In August 2018, our dad, grandad, husband, brother and uncle, Allan was diagnosed with a brain tumour. In September 2018 Allan underwent a successful 6 hour operation at Southmead Hospital of which the incredible team removed 100% of the tumour.

However, unfortunately the results of which were not as positive. Allan was diagnosed with an extremely rare stage 4 cancerous brain tumour, so rare that his oncologist has only ever seen 6 cases during his career. Of course there were potential life changing risks of undergoing such an operation, however after just a few days Allan was back up on his feet sporting a 'different haircut' and head bandage there-after.

Taking one step at a time through an extremely frightening period with family and close friends after the operation, Allan was able to start his radiation and chemotherapy treatment. During this time Allan was unable to drive, which he found extremely difficult, as anyone that knows Allan will understand how much of a ‘petrol head’ he is and soon was chauffeured around by family and friends to his treatments and appointments to Exeter and Bristol.

Allan completed a successful 6-week intensive 5 day a week course of Radiation therapy at Exeter Hospital alongside a long course of Chemotherapy tablets, which is due to finish this July 2019.

Allan's positive resolve, fight, and attitude along with the strong support from family and friends was the result of a successful, yet overwhelming result in May 2019 which indicated the tumour no longer existed and was given the all-clear.

We cannot thank the incredible neurology teams a Southmead and Exeter enough. Each and everyone one of the group was fantastic, of which we will all be eternally grateful. Which brings us to today with Allan being well and looking forward to the future once more with his much-loved family.

In support of the Brain Tumour Support Charity, Liz Wallis has kindly agreed to hold the next 'Lizzie’s Ultra’ in dedication of Allan and the charity. Along with Liz’s team, Allan’s family and friends they will be embarking on a 30-mile cross country hike on Sunday 7th July 2019 around the local area raising money and awareness for the charity. So please get behind the team and support this great cause!
