Tour Pour La Mer · 12 May 2006 to 14 May 2006 ·
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
Lloyd's Register's participants (most of whom are pictured here) are hoping to raise as much money as possible for the Mission to Seafarers (www.missiontoseafarers.org) and Sea-Alarm (www.sea-alarmnet.org) by cycling on 12th and 13th May 2006 in a 200km cross channel ride.
The Mission To Seafarers cares for seafarers of all nationalities and creeds around the world. It works through a network of chaplains and volunteers offering friendship, practical and spiritual help. In an average year it welcomes over 1 million seafarers to its centres, conducts more than 75,000 ship visits, visits more than 800 seafarers in hospital, and assists in more than 1000 welfare and justice cases. Recently, it helped four Filipino seafarers abandoned in appalling conditions on a tugboat off the coast of Bahrain who were left to endure unsanitary living conditions, scorching heat, and shortages of food and fuel. With the Mission’s help, the men finally managed to return home to their families in the Philippines just after Christmas.
SeaAlarm provided assistance following the Prestige oil tanker pollution in Spain in 2002. It is also working to help prevent future such incidents.
The event does not mean that we will be cycling on water! The channel crossing will be by ferry but we will be doing the land part from Greenwich to Dover followed by a long loup round Le Touquet.
