Story
On 10th July 2017 I had been in hospital on and off for about 4 weeks due to pregnancy complications and was finally told I would meet my baby later that day.
My baby boy was born just after 4pm but very quickly the mood in the operating theatre turned serious, registrars were bleeeped and I wasn’t being handed my baby boy for a cuddle as doctors were working on him to help him breathe.
Matthew was admitted to the Whittington NICU and I was left in the recovery suite post c section with no baby and no real clue as to what was going on. Tom was torn between us and what should’ve been a joyous day had turned into a nightmare.
Matthew was given help to breathe for the first two days of his life. I had to leave my most precious possession in the care of complete strangers, but thankfully they were the highly trained and qualified nurses and doctors of the Whittington NICU.
We are the lucky ones as he made an amazing recovery and by day three we were feeding him ourselves and able to take him home. Many people are not so lucky and I want to give something back to the Whittington Babies charity, who supported us, so that they can go on supporting other families.
I turn 40 on 12th December 2017 and have no need for gifts when I have three healthy and adorable children, an amazing boyfriend and fantastic family and friends (who also helped us through the tough days before and after Matthew was born). I am asking friends and family to instead consider a small donation rather than any gifts.
