Story

2020/2021 were awful years for everyone but in particular for the Groves boys.  In May 2020, their beautiful mum, Rhona, suffered an extremely rare spinal stroke - these only account for 1.25% of all strokes.   Ro was initially treated at Salford Royal Hospital and the plan was for her to be moved to a specialist Spinal Injuries Centre in Southport for rehabilitation but sadly she passed away 5 weeks later on 20/06/2020.

On 11/02/2021, a little over 7 months later, their wonderful dad, Neil, lost his courageous battle with cancer.  He was diagnosed with incurable lung cancer in June 2018.  Somehow, with Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy, Immunotherapy treatment and the amazing care and support he received from Christie’s Hospital in Manchester, we were lucky enough to share an extra two years beyond his initial prognosis and for this we will be forever grateful.

Guy has decided he would like to do something in return to raise some money in honour of Ro and Neil and to thank both Christie’s and Southport Spinal Injuries Centre for the incredible work and care that they deliver everyday to families like ours.

A keen cyclist and always looking for a challenge he has decided to cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats! On 01/05/2022 Guy, his crazy friend Martin, (who has agreed to ride with him!) and myself, Lou, (as support in Stan the van!) will drive down to Cornwall and start the journey on 02/05/2022.

The plan is to complete the 1000 mile ride in 10-12 days and the aim is to raise £10,000 - ideally £5,000 each for Christie’s and Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals Charity (please bear this in mind when making your donation so that we can keep the donations as equal as possible). We would like to thank each and every one of you for every penny shared and look forward to keeping you updated on our travels!
