Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

2016 will see me (hopefully!) completing my first 10k run, my first triathlon and I will also be swimming 1 mile again in Loch Lomond.

Our son Rhys was born with Tracheo-Oesophageal Fistula (TOF) which was diagnosed the day he was born.  In plain English this means his food pipe was not attached to his stomach meaning he couldn't swallow.  He was transferred to Edinburgh Sick Kids Hospital where he had surgery at 2 days old which was very successful and we then spent 2 weeks in the hospital.  During the whole time Rhys was in the hospital Robert and I were given a room in the hospital to stay in.

Rhys has been back 4 times for a dilatation where basically his food pipe has been stretched as it has narrowed where the repair was done.  His last procedure also saw the surgical removal of a blueberry which he had swallowed and got completely stuck.

Rhys is doing really well.  He manages to eat almost all foods, but does have to take his time and drink lots during meals.  He is now off all medication.

I completed the 1 mile swim at Loch Lomond in 2013 and I have been thinking about what my next challenge would be.  I love swimming and somehow joined the Montrose triathlon club last year to begin training for the triathlon, which then progressed to me entering 3 events this year.

My run is on 15th May, my triathlon is on 4th June and my swim is on 27th August.

I am so proud of Rhys and everything he has overcome, and I still cannot thank Edinburgh Sick Kids hospital for everything they have done.
